Experience is everything when you come to getting a job. If you choose to do engineering I would recommend you do a placement year to gain valuable experience – you’ll also get paid good money for it which will help you through the rest of your studies. Also, things like summer jobs and volunteering to help with projects at university will help with this. I think the most important skills I have developed as an engineer are team working and the ability to think like an engineer. You will never be able to learn everything, but if you can look at a problem like an engineer, with a relaxed, logical and analytical frame of mind you will soon find a good solution.

      Hi 🙂

I agree with Charlie on this one, experience is really important!

It is also a good idea to find out what type of engineering you might want to do (there are a lot of different types: mechanical, chemical, electrical and more). A lot of companies do short placements and work experience where you can go and learn about the company and engineering. It is best to look this up early so you can do as much as possible and this will also help you decide which type of engineering you want to do. Other than that just work hard and research as much as you can.
If you have any more questions about any types of engineering, feel free to ask us 🙂 . I personally do chemical engineering, so if you would like to find out more let me know!
