Good question Pamela- I came to the decision myself that I wanted to be an engineer really. I liked maths and science at school and wanted to do something where I could make a difference.

If I could give someone advice it would be to mke sure you like maths if you are looking to do an engineering degree… because there are a lot of numbers involved! Also you will need to be prepared to work very hard at uni… probably doing more hours than in some other degrees. It is all worth it though becuase going into the engineering profession gives you very exciting prospects!

      Hi Pamela,

Well I first did chemistry and in my final year. I worked for a short time at a company that you may have heard of Jaguar and Land Rover a πŸ™‚ nd a lot of the people were engineers so I was curious to learn more.

I also wanted to do something different and I found out I could do chemical engineering for a year so I thought why not?? And I haven’t regretted it since πŸ™‚ I also got to go to a conference which the women engineering society organised where there were loads of inspirational women πŸ™‚

My best advice would be to research places to go and get some experience. Depending what year you are in you can find a few places you can visit πŸ™‚ This will help you to see what it is like and what type of engineering you may want to do (plus you can see how some things are made, which is cool)

I found this website for you that might help you or a friend find some experience:

      Hope that helped!
