Wow… this is a very broad question Amy… shall I try and sum it up in 3 words? Interesting, challenging, technical but also involving a lot of team work.

Is there a particular aspect of the job you would like to know more about?

I really enjoy my job as I do so many different things. Sometimes I will be doing experiments in a lab, other times doing project work or research on a computer at a desk or in the university. Sometimes I work out in the factory with the operators and other engineers to make sure that the beer and cider is being produced efficiently. Sometimes I go to conferences around the world and get to dress up in a suit and meet lots of other people who do the same thing for different companies. Some days I also go into schools to encourage students like yourself to go and study engineering and science and talk about the different, exciting careers available to you.

I will admit i do have dull days in my job, everyone does, but there are no two days that are the same.

Today for instance I had to speak to other members if the company based in the factory to find out when machinery a customer had ordered would be ready as they needed it in time for harvest. I also had to use the AutoCAD computer design programme to ‘draw’ some machinery for a prospective customer based in New Zealand. He wanted to know the dimensions of the machine so he would know if it fit into the space he had.

On other days I could be doing more general paperwork duties to keep up with my projects.

There is no one day the same!

      Hi Amy,

Thanks for your question! So my job is pretty interesting because it combines science and engineering which is making me become pretty creative with ideas.

Working in food research I have to do quite a lot of lab work but I do get to run different experiments everyday and sometimes I get to visit a food company and learn about the production of certain food products.

Recently I have had to learn a lot about food flavour and how we taste food to help me with my project and that has been really fascinating ( we taste with all five senses :O) and I am learning things I never knew about eating food which is great.
This keeps everything quite fun and interesting 🙂 Hope that answered your question 🙂
